Newton County History

Established Jasper and Newton were originally within the Spanish Municipality of Atascosito, but prior to the Revolution of 1836 they had been established as the separate district of Bevil. After the revolution the government of the Republic established the district as Jasper County. Newton County was separated from Jasper County and was established as a county in 1846. Location of County Seat 1846: Quicksand Creek , about 4 miles north of Newton. |
